[C320-list] Couple of start Battery questions

Thanks Brian.  Nice to know.

I just need to make sure I have a Start Battery large enough to crank the Yanmar 3GM30F.

FYI ..   I "was" not going to use AGM for the start battery.  I was going to use cheaper non-serviceable Lead Acid since the Balmar DDC 12/24 allows you to configure for any kind you want.  It only charges the Start Battery when needed and pulls the charge from the house bank source.  (Assuming I do things the way I plan).

While writing this...I just found an AGM at 800 CCA for the same price so I may change my mind on AGM start battery.
Anybody know the minimum/ideally sized start battery for the Yanmar?

Thanks,

I have the set up that you describe with all AGM batteries.  Number 1
(group 24 I think) is starter and number 2 (4D equivalents) are combined
two batteries for house.  I have only used starter battery ocassionally.
You can isolate and use as you described and switch with out problem.  When
on shore power I leave on both as it charges.  Never had a problem. This
set up allows me to use fridge, lights, stereo at anchor and still have
starting power by only using house battery selection for power at anchor.
I do not have wind or solar backup and a weekend at Cape Lookout has  not
been a problem.  Motoring in ICW or NC coast area keeps battery topped off
in between anchorages.
