[C320-list] Downsizing

I have sailed all my life from a small Sunfish to living aboard an Endeavor 43. As a 60 yr old female whose strength is not what it used to be and who doesn’t have a partner to help, the 320 is perfect. I can sail her on my own, she has enough space for having a couple friends onboard overnight (and if you take the table out you get even more space!), she’s not so big that the upkeep is overwhelming, parts are easily accessible, you have this awesome group of people to ask questions about YOUR BOAT, and if it gets snotty I’m not overpowered by her physical size. I think it’s a perfect boat for downsizing.

The Yanmar engine is powerful enough to get 5 to 6 kts in a seaway. If you do any big water sailing at all the sail boat is much more comfortable in heavy seas, than a trawler do to the stabilizing effect of the keel, and reduced sail. We have friends with a trawler who won?t venture out in seas that we will. Trawlers do have their advantages depending on the type of boating you do.

It is a size 27 flooded cell as are the 4D Interstate house bank; could not justify the cost of the AGM given the type of sailing we do. I also have installed a 180W solar panel which is hooked up to a Blue Sky controller which puts a 2A trickle charge into the starter bty once the house bank is topped up. As long as the sun shines this set up keeps the btys charged up.

>
> In 2012, I brought the boat back to the U.S. to be closer to grandchildren. After one winter in So. Calif on the Pearson, I sold it and bought a trawler for the additional room and light in the cooler, wetter weather. We weren't going out that much, and the trawler makes a great condo - although not nearly as much fun on the water. I also agree with the comments about the boat's weather capabilities. I would much rather be on a sailboat in snotty weather, even if it is a smaller boat.

> Last summer I bought my 320, a 1995 model. I have to say, that even though I've sailed a lot of other boats in this size range, this one is a sweetheart! Interior design is excellent, fit and finish is better than Hunters and Beneteaus, and sail handling is very good. Because I'm insuring this older boat for commercial use, I've had to do a lot of repair work and some upgrades right away - an early familiarity with build quality that has been very positive at this point.
>
> So far, my 320 experience has been on the inland waters of Lake Pepin, so I can't make any judgements about its blue water capabilities. Actually, I have to admit, it would not be my first choice for long-range cruising because that's not really what it's designed for. It does make a delightful coastal cruiser and inland waters boat.

I had a dripping fitting from the pressure water near the hot water heater that contributed to a nuisance water in the bilge, but once I changed a few things it was all good and tight.
