[C320-list] Raw Water Pump Question

We converted to a kind of seal-less shaft packing system some years ago
(can't remember the exact name). It has a balance water line coming off
the raw water system that I think flushes or provides a seal at the shaft.
I had the same issue of draining the entire marina into my boat when I
opened the impeller housing. After watching it for a couple of hours, I
concluded the balance line offers a path for water. I now only
check/change the impeller on the hard or I disconnect/plug that balance
line. Maybe this is related.
