[C320-list] Latch for head door

A note of caution. On my MKII, the handle on the lock is held on with a set screw. I was alone on the boat and closed the door from inside the head and the handle fell off, potentially locking me in with NO way out. Luckily I had a tool in my pocket that worked. Lesson: tighten the setscrew way tight and consider lock tight.

Hi Allan:

That’s a good idea, although I think I might try putting the hoops on the outside and inside, so guests can have privacy while doing their thing. Thanks.

We took a different tack with the head door on SS2 and SS3. Think of a hook and loop that keeps a door, such as a gate or screen door, closed. We reversed this by putting the loop on outside of the door and the hook on the inside of the head on the doorframe. The big advantage of doing this is that air circulates through the head when we are away and under sail, cutting down on odors. Secondarily, we don't have to be concerned about the door latch giving way while under sail which it often did.

Does anyone know of a replacement for the latch on the head door, circa 1998? I’ve disassembled, oiled and resassembled mine, but it’s just plain worn out. The door won’t stay locked, which means it swings open and shut when I’m sailing.

I can’t seem to find anything that looks like it on Catalina Direct. I thought I would try here before heading out toHome Depot.
