Subject: [C320-list] Trojan batteries

Hello all:

I’m thinking of switching to four Trojan T-105 golf cart batteries. I’m interested in hearing what, if any, alterations other owners have had to do to make the same switch.

I have a 1998 320 with the battery bank under the starboard settee. It has low-level battery boxes, probably made out of plastic, that each measure 20 inches in length.

My concerns are: Will two 105s fit into each of these boxes? Will the taller 105s fit properly in the storage space? Am I better off removing the low-level boxes that came with the boat and just using standard battery boxes?

Also, just for the record, I am thinking of replacing the start battery with one of those jump-start gizmos at auto supply stores. The thought is that if I run down both battery banks, I can use this to get the engine going instead of having a permanently installed start battery.

Just clip it on to one of the battery banks and turn the key. I’ve spoken with several other sailors who have gone to this and say it is much simpler. Just plug in the jump-starter when you’re at a dock …
