Regarding using the Fram for the Yanmar. Although the two (Fram/Yanmar) are
interchangeable in size there is a difference in internal design. The
filters sold by Yanmar have a more robust pressure bypass valve in the
filter. The filter material is also different. The Yanmar filter was
designed for the diesel engine (not gasoline engine) and the considerations
embodied by a more viscous diesel engine oil in mind as well as the higher
compression in a diesel engine. I had read this in a technical publication
some time ago. I used Fram for one season and then after reading the
technical publication I shifted to the Yanmar factory issued filter. I
would consult with Yanmar technical services if you need precise technical
data.

Regarding the Ullman head sail You can choose/specify what fabric weight you
want for the sail, which is what I had done. I went for the heavier weight
(7 oz. Dacron jib) and it shapes beautifully. It is substantially superior
to the original Catalina sail which is built with a lighter weight
sailcloth.
