I can’t recall which engine you have but the manual for my Yanmar 3gm30f says the height of the (lowest feed point of the)  tank must not be more than 0.8 meters below the engine feed pump inlet

That is about 30 inches so you should be good. I’m just pointing out that the limitations include engine as well as filter! Worth adding to the record for others looking at the thread and considering a similar job
