Gary:  I think I remember there being close tolerance that prevented using larger hinge because very close to the back wall.  The hinge is very strong and easily holds up the covers.  It's a game changer.  Neil Harmony

Thanks everyone for some great responses.  Keep'em coming.

At this time, I really like Neil's suggestion of the Gemlux Friction
Hinges.  If I go that route, I'll probably use the Gem Lux Stainless Steel
FH-9605-TM Friction Hinges.  They have three holes on each side and look
like they'll either work with or cover the existing hinge holes.  I'd
probably fill the existing holes with an epoxy, if they are not used.

If anyone else has other experience with these hinges, please let me know.
