Thanks to Kevin Rooney and Jeff Hare respectively for bringing to our
attention the FB Catalina 320 Owners and the Catalina 320 International
Association groups. I just signed up for both. I was not aware of them and
never thought to search FB for them because of the list. I am on FB almost
every day for social reasons, to check on my friends and extended family
with whom I would not be in contact otherwise, so I appreciate the social
function these pages and groups can serve to bring people together and to
share things not appropriate for the list, e.g., recent cruises, rendezvous,
raftups, etc. Not everyone is a member of the email group and not everyone
is a member of FB, so the more methods of contact the better. The email
group seems to be mostly about fixing issues or technical stuff, not social
things. No one is forced to join either but both methods, just like boats,
have their place, their benefits and of course drawbacks.
What did occur to me from this conversation is that there are C-320 owners
on the Chesapeake Bay, some in neighboring marinas, like Kevin in Shipwright
Harbor, who I wasn't aware were there because if the threads are about a
problem I don't have and want nothing to do with (ha ha!), I delete it. I'm
at Herrington Harbour North, as are other owners I've met who are not on
this list. I got s/v Whoosh (1993 #15) in 2014 so maybe prior to that there
was an active rendezvous group like the C-400 group on the Bay. I haven't
heard of any local Chesapeake Bay C-320 rendezvous or raftup weekends. I
only met Allan Field, C-320 Emeritus, last year on my dock when he was
visiting someone else.
So, if the FB groups are a place to chat about where people are sailing and
maybe find each other nearby, I think that's great.
Weather permitting, I'm leading a cruise to La Trappe Creek the weekend of
6/13-14 with the Herrington Harbour Sailing Association if Kevin or anyone
is nearby and wants to drop their hook and join our party by dinghy. (See,
this is what I would normally post on FB, LOL!)
