Hello Peter:

I also had a Danforth on my boat. I wanted a better anchor that would
insure a positive set under all conditions. I did my research. Practical
Sailor had conducted a review and the Manson Supreme was very highly
recommended in that review as well as few others. I keep the Danforth in
the anchor well with chain and line for a backup. The 25 lb. Manson Supreme
sets very well on the bow roller that came with the boat.

>From time to time when anchoring in mud and or sand the Danforth would take
a while to set and a few times it dragged before setting and in a few
instances I would have to reset. I have had this Manson on my boat for 10
years. I have 40 feet of 3/16" high tensile galvanized chain which is then
attached to 270 ft. of nylon rode. I have never had this anchor drag wither
for quick set or long term 2-4 days in anchorage with shifting winds and
current working against my original set point.

The Manson is so reliable. It sets securely the first time. I let the boat
work the set for a little while and then in about 10 minutes I will apply
reverse for a deep set if I am anchored for one or more days. I sail in
Long Island Sound which is mud , gravel and sand bottom. I sleep well when
at anchor, even in higher winds

Here are two UTube links if you want to see the anchor challenged at work
setting in the bottom.

 Dennis
I will check it out next time I go to the boat (next week) and take a pic
for you.As there are four clutches on the starboard side, I must have added
one.

That?s good to know, Chris.? I don?t suppose you have a drawing of the
shape/size/location of that plate? I already have three clutches each side -
is there room for a fourth?

(I've owned the boat for 20 years). You could order one from Garhauer. There
is a steel or aluminium plate bonded in below the flat section where the
clutches are mounted, so you can drill then tap a secure fixing for a new
clutch.Trust Catalina to do a proper job when they built these boats!

in at the boom end. We currently have no mechanism at the luff and I?m
interested in what other 320 owners have done to remedy this. There are no
reef horns at the gooseneck, and I?d prefer not to fit them given the
possibility of accidental sail damage.? The C320 manual offers no advice in
this area other than to say the second reef line is a single line of 70? in
length.

for a reef line??

I have been reading the posts about anchors for the 320 but would appreciate
the latest advice.

We have an early model 320 with the very short anchor roller. We cruise the
upper Chesapeake and need an anchor for overnight stops. So far we have only
encountered a muddy bottom. We won?t be out in a hurricane, but, for
example, the gusts tomorrow night are forecast to 30mph which would likely
be the upper end of our comfort level.

We have some sort of heavy Danforth anchor in the chain locker, but it
cannot possibly fit on the roller. So I have to manhandle it over the side
when we anchor (which isn?t hard) and wrestle it up and wash the vile mud
off it, all without the windlass, when we leave the anchorage.

So the obvious question is what anchor should I buy that can live one the
roller without damaging the hull (I don?t want to replace the bow roller
because it looks like an enormous job)? I have seen several people say the
following are OK:

1) Rocna-15: Seems popular. Perhaps it is a bit over sized and the
template suggests a very tight fit. Some people say it doesn?t fit.

2) Mantus-25: this may be a little on the small side. The template suggest
it will fit although the fluke seems to be longer than that of the Rocna.

3) Has anyone used a Mantus Anchor mate successfully?

Can anyone comment about these anchors?

Thanks in advance for your help.
