[C320-list] Second Reef Line Arrangement

Scott, I have the same arrangement as you. It does like a daunting amount of work and expense to add another line on each side, however, it may be possible to fit a stacked deck organiser such as the Garhauer 30-DO-DSTB under each side of the traveler that could give you 2x3 or even 2x4 sheaves each side.

I have room for a fourth clutch on the starboard side of my boat but not the port side, due to the way that the individual clutches have been mounted, unless I relocate some of them. But how do you know if the aluminium plate extends far enough to tap into?

Perhaps a better option would be to replace the mainsheet clam cleats (which I don’t trust 100%) on each side with a new double clutch from Garhauer or elsewhere. I certainly have space for that on my port side but might have to move the position of one existing clutch on the starboard side. Garhauer’s 11-12S dual clutch looks like a decent option at just 2-1/4” wide. I believe that there should be an excellent chance of affixing this to the embedded aluminium plate, and killing two birds with one stone.

Maybe someone has already tried this? Please post results if you have.

> 2. My mainsheet is led to the winch above a large jam cleat that is very close to the three line stoppers. I don't think there is room to add a fourth stopper on the outside without removing that jam cleat. The jam cleat holds the mainsheet during reefing operations or whenever the winch is in use for something else, so I don't think I'd want to remove it. Again, how is that problem avoided?

Garhauer supplies the longer bolts so you can do this. There are pictures on the 320 Association site of this set up from others who have done it.

We currently have no mechanism at the luff and I’m interested in what other 320 owners have done to remedy this. There are no reef horns at the gooseneck, and I’d prefer not to fit them given the possibility of accidental sail damage. The C320 manual offers no advice in this area other than to say the second reef line is a single line of 70’ in length.
