[C320-list] Fuel Injector or Injector Pump?

I am new to my Perkins Perama M30, this hasn't happened to me but it will.

Each injector should have a fine spray not a dribble; they can be cleaned.

Water in the engine, it won't crank. But check, drain silencer, check cylinders by remove injector, turn over engine by hand.
Engine should turn over freely.

Check air flow, M30 no filter, but screen on intake, look inside with flashlight make sure no blockage.
Check exhaust, no plug or birds nest in discharge.  Exhaust elbow obstructed?

Check glow plugs.  The manifold should feel warm if working?

Compression - engine sits for long time, oil drains down from cylinder / piston; squirt small amount of oil into cylinder.
Compression test each cylinder.

Cranking speed - throttle all the way open when cranking. Is the throttle lever on the M30 governor / injection pump in the open position?

WD-40 sprayed into air inlet while cranking or starter fluid sprayed onto a rag held over air inlet.

Persistent Air in the fuel supply - you covered all of the fuel, filters, lift pump but all fuel line connections tight?

Timing?  Was work done to offset timing off?  Timing mark on the M30 by crankshaft pulley.

Intake & Exhaust valves - remove cover, are springs, shafts OK no broke?  Clearance is 0.004" OK?

I would request a diesel mechanic to figure this out, make sure it is not something simple or complicated internal problem.
Don't guess its the injection pump.
Guess than Test.  You are probably close to fix already!  I feel your pain!  This too will get solved!

I am not sure. The problem started last year and I suspected bad fuel. I have completely drained the tank and lines and changed filters, but the problems persist. I would expect incorrect valve lash to show loss of power, etc., but I am not sure about hard starting.

Several people have mentioned the kill switch. Correct me if I am wrong but, if the kill switch was not acting properly (stuck in the engaged position), then I should not get fuel at the injectors. However, when I open the injectors and operate the Racor bleed pump, I get good flow.

I talked to an injector pump rebuild guy that said I can remove each injector, attach re-attach them to the fuel line outside of the motor, and turn it over (be careful to stay well clear). If I see a fine spray, then I at least know the injectors are working. I will check back and let you guys know when it is solved.
