Hi Larry:

I think many of us use the term Freon generically. R-12 was the old, bad stuff. R-22 was the newer bad stuff that is now being banned. R-134a is the newest stuff that supposedly is much better for the environment.

I think my old fridge was r-22, having been built in 1998. My new one is r-134a, I think.
