In our area of Southern Georgian Bay those who have 9.9 hp 4 stroke engines favour the Honda.  These modern 4 strokes are very heavy.  Here (it is not the ocean), those with larger heavier engines hoist with dingy on davits, hoist with a motor hoist and place on a rail bracket or leave on the dingy in up position and tow.

I understand in the Caribbean one can still buy 2 stroke engines which would be lighter.

You probably will be able to plain with a 9.9  and maybe an 8

Thanks Graeme - the HP Limitation on our current West Marine  310 RIB is 10
HP.  The 2 1/2 HP motor  currently in use came from our previous dinghy -
a home made 8' Eastport Pram with a max hp rating of 3.0.
