On Hull #514 it seems like the mechanism has some sort of friction stop
near the top of the range.   To get our table to retract I put both hands
directly over the pedestal and put my body weight on it and then give it a
good dynamic push...kinda like starting CPR on the table.   It usually
gives on the first try...once it releases it glides down and back up easily.
