Sorry we never met (C320 to C320).  We are close by in Vandemere (up Bay river).  We love Washington.
Good luck in all future endeavors. We may soon, also, go over to the dark side.
If you are near Bay river give us a shout.  Have a second slip at our dock.

Thanks,

No!  Will be sorry to see you go. But at 74 the timeline for my expiration
date is closer than I like to think. Good luck.  Hope you can keep our
values up because I have  hull # 1075. Brian of Serenity

Chris:? Your listing shows "fin keel" at 4'6".? Is that correct?? I thought fin keel was deeper.? All the best of luck!? Neil Kornblatt, Harmony #963.

Thanks for the kind words.

We got a bad NOAA forecast at the end of June and ended up caught out with
30-35 knots of wind and I saw gusts to 43 knots on the instruments. We were
able to sail and it was a fast but rough ride, the boat can always handle
more than the crew can and the C-320 is a particularly capable vessel. That
said, it was all that I could do to get the sails in as we approached
Ocracoke Island and it was clear that if anything had happened to me, the
Admiral could not and would have had to call for help. So, that was our
sign as we are not the type to wait for perfect weather and even when
perfect weather is forecast as was literally the case then, you don't
always get what you are promised.

Hi Chris:

I wasn?t referring to you specifically. Many of us (I?m 67) stare down the issue of how long we can handle a sailboat.  I?m hoping to get another 8 or 10 years out of my 320 before I have to take up golf again!

I?m on a mission to turn my wife into a veteran sailor. I keep asking, ?What happens if I have a heart attack and we?re 20 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico?? We?ve been in some bad weather, and she has seen what?s required to keep the boat safe. She still has some learning to do.

Our cruising club has a contingent of founding members who are now in their 80s. One couple is still cruising a big Island Packet. Two others got rid of big sailboats for an even larger trawlers. Yet another is swallowing the anchor after having a senior moment and running into a low bridge.

So I guess it?s all a very personal decision. You have to do what feels right.

Hi Jack,
I didn?t take it in any personal sense, but rather sharing that we are lucky in that we won?t be ?swallowing the anchor? just yet but moving over to a different category of vessel where strength isn?t as much as an issue.

Thanks and Best Regards,
Chris Burti

Chris; we?ve never met but over the years I?ve enjoyed your sage commentary. As time marches on we come to that Yogi Berra ?fork in the road? we must all take. Lotsa fellow sailors just can?t handle the physically demanding aspects of yacht sailing. You?ll surely enjoy your next phase of this journey we call life!
