Rudimentary test…If the reefer is cold,  turn it down all the way and see if the compressor stops. If so, good if towards the middle , better. Then, after a few minutes, turn it up until it comes back on. If it comes on somewhere towards the middle, it is working properly.

I need to verify the thermostat is working.   Seems to be always on max. We can sort of regulate by turning power on/off but a pain. 
Way to test?  If bad, replacement?
It could be a varistor?? So could maybe put ohm meter while changing know?
Not major issue but if time permits....
