Turning off the valve as practice is not only safe but smart. How many times did you leave the BBQ grill at home on and went to use it and it is out of propane because you left the valve on. Then you have to go and get a refill right in the middle of cooking the meal for all your guest. Dinner was supposed to be at 7:00 and it is 30 minutes to unhook and go to the store and 30 minutes back and reconnect. Your 7:00pm dinner just wet to 8:00pm. Wife is pissed and guest are hungry and drank all your beer and liquor because the food wasn’t ready.

Is it inconvenient to shut off the tank when you are done? YES, but the alternative is a potential disaster. I have a check list of what needs to be done before I leave the boat and the propane tank being on the top 4 of items to check. It is above the “Do you have your cell phone”. 

Just my thoughts. That and $2 might buy you a cup of coffee. Just don’t go to Starbucks. You need more money. Lol
