[C320-list] Refinish salon table top and salon wall wood

The exterior of my hatch boards were well worn-hadn't been treated in years
by the PO. The interior had a good amount of varnish and was more of a
reddish tint not matching the color of the wood throughout the rest of the
interior. I used a heat gun and putty knife to remove the varnish from the
interior, then sanded both sides down. I took a page from Jeff Hare and
treated it with the Watco Danish Oil-Fruitwood finish. I used two coats on
both sides. They have a similar reddish finish to them. I think Jeff has
some photos of his on the site and mine came out the same. I just did this
about 2 weeks ago, so can't attest to how they hold up based on my own
experience, but application was very easy and quick.

I also just refinished my steps. I used the water based Target finishes
from Catalina Direct. Since the CD site doesn't necessarily list stairs as
one of the uses, I contacted the manufacturer directly to see if it was
appropriate or if it needed a crosslinker additive that Target sells to
enhance durability. The manufacturer said no crosslinker was needed. To
remove the old varnish I did the same thing-heat gun and putty knife, then
sanding. These have a very thin veneer-I went through a little on the
edges. Almost impossible not to go through. I don't have any affiliation
with the company, nor do I have a lot of experience in refinishing wood.
But, the varnish was very easy to use and very quick to recoat-only an hour
or two required and no sanding. I brushed on 5 coats of the gloss,
followed by 2 coats of the satin over a period of about 12 hours last
Sunday. Final product looks beautiful. Again, can't attest to the
durability, only the ease of application and final results.
