[C320-list] Replacing the Stem Fitting - Best Practice

Thanks Jeff, I had my standing rigging professionally replaced a couple of years ago and apparently the riggers did not fit a turnbuckle to the forestay as I did exactly what you’ve described below with the furler (see my post below). There is only a toggle inside the furler drum. So no means of slackening the forestay directly. However, the lack of a turnbuckle here does have the advantage that there is room (just) to fit a tension gauge onto the forestay and take a reading.

I’m hoping that the combination of easing the backstays as much as possible plus a halyard or two on forward cleats will allow me to disconnect the furler from the stem fitting. But it’s possible that I may have a few hundred kg to take in on the winch. Any advice gratefully received.
