[C320-list] Intermittent list emails

About 11 years ago, when I joined this list, I got well and truly flamed for daring to suggest that we migrate to something a little more modern! To be fair, eleven years ago cellphone coverage and smartphones weren't what they are today, so the argument was that an email-style list was very low on data usage and bandwidth requirements and could be relied upon when trying to get an answer to a problem whilst upside down in the aft lazarette locker, using a Nokia 3220 phone whilst ten miles offshore.
AT the risk of being flamed again; is it time to revisit this?
