[C320-list] lateral movement of rudder

Double check me on this...  if it is bad enough,  there is a way ( I was told) to fix that.
It involves dropping the rudder and post. Then drilling (3?) Holes near the top (and I think bottom too?) Of where the shaft is bedded or touches the mount. Then you wax the rudder post and re-insert/install it. Then you use a large syringe to inject fiberglass resin (or whatever it is) into those holes. That will fill the void. The wax is supposed to stop the "resin" from sticking to the rudder post.
I think the rudder post is just in fiberglass that can get reemed out(especially if rudder hits bottom a lot. No metal sleeve or collar.
I would call Catalina Direct and ask them. They sell the kit to do this repair. (At least they did last year)  I was thinking of doing this repair last year but decided my wobble was not that bad. Year of boat make a difference???
Good luck.  Others may have better/ more direct knowledge?

Hi,

I am wondering what amount of lateral rudder movement is ok. There was a small amount of movement when I hauled the boat yesterday for a clean. It was only about a 1/4 inch each way, if that at the bottom tip of the rudder.

If that needs to be reduced what is the best way to do it, some form of shim or I see some articles suggesting the seal bolts at the top can be adjusted to reduce movement.

Any help or comments very much appreciated.

Thanks, Ian.
