I used Dynamat in mine and it worked well. Easy to install and already adhesive.

Last year my engine insulation finally deteriorated to the point where it
had to be removed.

I originally installed this insulation about 20 years ago so that is
probably not too bad.

It was the heavy, thick stuff sold by the marine companies (1/2-3/4"
thick?).

Cleaning up the glue left behind was a mess and, consequently, some still
remains.

The weight of that insulation made the covers very heavy and difficult to
move around.

There are a couple of insulation companies I've been considering that deal
in automotive insulation and sound proofing.

They also offer "marine" products.

I like the automotive insulations because they seem to be thinner but I need
to determine how effective they are compared to the marine insulation

The companies I am familiar with are Hushmat and Dynamat.

Has anyone looked into these or other similar options? Any experiences?

HI All,

I'm interested as well.

The previous owner did a fantastic job installing the foam/lead/reflective
type insulation/sound deadening material and it did a great job until a few

weeks ago. During my last haul out the shipyard workers had to open up

the back of the engine space and for some reason it has all delaminated and
disintegrated. I have a horrific mess to clean up and had to be really
careful brining the boat back into the slip to avoid the engine ingesting
some of the disintegrating foam.

My understanding is that some of the newer materials are much more effective

and much thinner and don't involve lead. I've not done any research on it

yet.

Thanks,

Hi all,

I want to add insulation to the front and rear engine box covers. My Perkins
is quite noisy, and needs a bit of quieting. Looking for specific
recommendations and how well/poorly they performed.

Thank you.
