Just a quick post for those with the above. If you get a little
seawater exiting the pump handle shaft when in operation then this is a
   20 minute fix for you.
What is likely to have happened is that a shoddy little stainless
spring that tensions the shaft seal has corroded. Ours did so in only
2 years after replacing the whole pump.
You need to remove the piston and head assembly. Note this does not
mean removing the 6 screws - just unscrew the part that the handle
locks into - it has flats so you can use a pipe wrench - you may even
be able to use the handle itself. Cover the jaws of your wrench in tape
   to avoid marring the plastic.
The whole pump handle, shaft and piston come out along with the
   top-seal.
Give it a good wash ;-)
Now turn it upside down and look inside the top unit that you
unscrewed. You will see a black seal with a groove. In the groove will
be corroded bits of the offending spring.
   Hook them out.
Get an o ring about 3/4in overall diameter and with about 3mm cross
section. Cut it so you have a broken circle.
Use a flat head screwdriver to gently persuade it into the slot vacated
by the corroded spring and work out how much to trim off the overall
   length of the o-ring.
(I'm sure purists will remove the handle and get the precise o-ring
specs but my handle would not budge. )
Wedge the cut o-ring into the slot and slather with vaseline.
Reassemble and enjoy no more leaks.
