Are the screw holes stripped? If so which side (door or combing or both?).
  In either case you have to repair the stripped out holes with either
thickened epoxy or some chopped strand filled resin, and then you can sand
that down and apply gel coat on top.    Sounds like a lot of work but it's
fairly easy to do, just take your time, tape off the areas you need to work
on to limit the slop etc.    It’s an easy weekend repair.  Widen the holes
with a countersink bit give a nice taper for the epoxy/resin to adhere to.
