I've got the Kanzaki KM2P transmission, 2.21 gear ratio.

My (exposed) dipstick shaft is 3 11/16" in length with a fill mark (notched ring) at 3 1/2". On the orange threaded portion, there is about a 1/8" beveled section of plastic before the threads begin. Therefore the notched ring is about 3 5/8" from the start (bottom) of the threads.

I'm told that the correct way to read is to unscrew and rest the dipstick in the hole on the first thread. The mark represents maximum desired oil level and the end of the stick represents minimum.

Hi guys: Could one of you check the dimension on your transmission
dipstick down to the "full" line? It's the orange handled one. Just
measure from the underside of the plastic, down to the mark. Mine is
smooth, all sides, not a mark, a dent or anything to indicate the
full fluid level. By the way, I have written up an account of our
voyage last June from San Francisco to Honolulu, and sent it to Rod
Boer for possible inclusion into Mainsheet. I haven't yet heard back
from him. The 320 proved to be offshore capable, tougher than its
owner!
