[C320-list] Engine noise

Kurt,

For what it's worth, I bought self adheasive sound insulation from WM three years ago. The stuff can be cut to size with some dificulty with ordinary scissors and after you have the panels stuck you tape the seams with the provided metal tape (not lead). My point is that is was a painless job, the adheasive is incredible in that it has not let loose after three years of heat and moisture, the noise reduction is also a blessing. I did it on both the fore and aft cover, it does add weight but that doesn't bother me.

  Stan,

Thanks for the info re: soundproofing. On the Defender website the kit does not contain lead foil, but the one inch thick insulation by itself does. Therefore, can you please tell me how much insulation is needed and what other supplies are necessary to hang it?

Jon,
Do it !! you'll be glad you did. I used the stuff from Defender (as
always cheaper than WM) 5 years ago that contains lead (I don't think WM
even had it) so my weight difference was significant but so was the
difference in sound. I had forgotten how loud the standard 320 was until
went on a friends 98 a couple years ago - wow ! what a racket!! I put
off adding the external handles until last spring and it was a big help
for gripping the rear. I just used simple white cabinet door handles
from a home goods type store for cheap.

Dick,
How much heavier does this make the two covers? I have been
procrastinating on this project for a couple of off seasons now. Perhaps
it's good time to also add the external handle that some have added to
the aft cover....

Jon Vez
