I solved the problem by not shaving since 1973.  Not only has it prevented any failure of the water heater, I stand virtually no chance of accidentally slitting my throat with a razor after having too many Buffalo milks at Catalina.

I have not had the problem mentioned on my boat either, 1997, #442.
