[C320-list] Reason for replacing a 5 year old boat

Age is just relative.  I had an enquiry for a bucks party on on of the
bigger boats I take bookings for.  The young man on the phone reassured me
that they would be a sedate group because they were all quite old - in their
late twenties!

We wouldn't be selling Topcat if I didn't use her for my business as she's
in perfect condition.  We are only changing for tax reasons.  Weird as it
seems, we are better off financially buying a new boat  because I do
skippered charters and sailing lessons.  An added bonus is I will be able to
advertise my skippered charters as on a "new" boat again.  I've got some
mixed feelings on whether it's the right thing to do or not as it will take
time (and money) for me to get the shipwright to copy all the little things
we've done to Topcat onto the new boat.  Things like getting the bimini made
to the precise dimensions we want all takes time.  I intend getting
autopilot on the new boat and possibly getting better sails.  The North
Sails Norlam headsail we have currently was a definite improvement on the
original headsail.  We did some looking at other boats including Dufour,
Jeanneau and Elan but the C32 suits me and the dog the best.

Little things we've done include:
Midships cleats (good idea)
Double bowroller(won't do again)
Engine indsulation
Dipstick Inspection Hole
Hooks in companionway for boathook
Shelf in hanging locker in aft cupboard
Spring to hold chart table open
Gadget to hold fridge lid open and prevent anyone leaving it unsecured in
the open position from where it can fall and sit someone on the head
Wire gauze across sucky uppy bit of bilge pump hose (to prevent bits going
into pump)
Wire gauze across water sucking bit in shower to prevent hair going into
pump
Poleless Sun awning
Spectra (non stretch) halyards

ANNIE-
  I am certain I am not the only one wondering this, but why does someone
with hull #812 (a fairly new boat) want a newer boat (hull #1073)?  Are
you keeping them both for some reason? did somehting happen to #812 that I
am not aware of? or do you feel #812 is too old for your purposes? or
something else?  curious...

(#1073). I still don't understand why it is taking so long and why it is
changing ships and wondered if anyone else has had similar long waiting
periods. We signed the contact on 7 May and both our previous Catalinas
arrived in Sydney within 3 to 4 months of ordering.
