[C320-list] Dutchman system

I'm planning on setting up my Dutchman system tomorrow.. it came with
the boat from the previous owner, and I just never got around to
installing it.

My question is:
My current sail cover doesn't have slits for the vertical dutchman
lines, so I think I'll need to drop the entire system down to put the
cover over the boom.. I should be able to mark the correct hoisted
position on the topping lift with a permanent marker so that I can
re-hoist the system each time before I hoist the main.. but when I put
it all away, I'll have no topping lift to my boom..
What do you guys do?
Did you have your sail covers cut with slits for the dutchman?
Do you move the main halyard back for a temporary topping lift?
Is the rigid vang enough to keep the boom up and out of the cockpit when
the main is down?

Thanks!

Ben
