Bruce ..... I just had my cutlass bearing replaced while the boat is out of the water for a new bottom job. If there's play, you may want to have it done now since you may not otherwise need to haul again for a couple of years. My yard used a neat hydraulic device that did not require removal of the prop shaft.

  Bruce ...... I usually do the wet sanding the day following the last coat of Trinidad SR and spend maybe an hour at the most going over the hull lightly. Don't want to rub off too much of that expensive paint!

    Petit Trinidad SR is the bottom paint of choice here in South Florida with
    our extreme fouling conditions and warm waters. I've used Trinidad and
    Trinidad SR several times and usually get about two years between bottom
    jobs.  I apply two coats to the bottom and a third coat at the water line
    and leading edges of the bow, rudder and keel. I've consistently used
    between 1 1/2 to 2 gallons. West Marine gets $ 220/gal but I buy it at the
    local boatyard for $ 185/gal. Since we also race, I go lightly over the
    newly painted  bottom with 220 grit wet sandpaper. This probably nets me a
    whole 1/100 of a knot but I often see the really serious local racers doing
    this to their boats. Good luck!

      We are in Slip J25 on the Island side.  I didn't get a quote from Dana
    Point
      Ship Yard but I know We$T Marine get's $220 per gallon and as near as I
    can
      tell it takes about two gallons per coat.
      We are members of DWYC; it would be great if we could meet up for dinner

      We keep our boat in Dana Point also.  Our dealer (in Marina del Rey) put 
      on Pettit Trinidad when our boat was new, back in Nov-2002.  We're still 
      on the original paint but my guess is were getting close to needing 
      new.  I'm not sure if they used the Trinidad 'SR' or some other version; 
      sorry I don't have that info.  Have you considered waiting to paint 
      until the boat is here?  Something comes to mind in that you want to 
      splash the boat without leaving the paint exposed to air too long.  From 
      what I'm hearing from my dock neighbors, a bottom paint job will run 
      about $1000 at Dana.

      Have you got a slip yet?  If you need any suggestions for service 
      providers (diver, riggers, canvas, etc) just drop me a note.
