[C320-list] starting effort

Scott - thanks for saying what I was going to say re: 3GM. To be slightly more precise, 3GM refers to the family. 3GM30 is the raw-water version with zincs while 3GM30F is the fresh-water version without zincs. The zinc/no-zinc stuff is described in the Yanmar GM manual. If you don't notice the F vs non-F stuff, you can get confused because in some parts it talks about zincs and in other parts it says there are no zincs. The oddities of the translation into English doesn't help the clarity.

The Yanmar 3GM does have zincs, but that's a raw water cooled engine.
The 3GM30F is the model that was used on 320's until recently and it
does not have zincs. There is a plug in the side of the block where the
zinc would go on a raw water cooled engine, but there's no point in
putting a zinc into the closed part of a cooling system.

The Perkins M30, being now likely a 15-20+ year old design, has compression ratio of 23:1 which may be lower than the Yanmar which stroke is 14% more than on the Perkins dispite only 1% larger bore. I couldn't find the actual Yanmar compression ratio.
