Hate to say it, I did the same test with my tank two years ago. At that
time the tank was 10 years old and have never added any treatment.
There was no sediment/sludge/etc.

Even though marine diesel is supposed to have a biocide added, adding a
small amount of BioBor at fillups should be considered just about
mandatory. I've been doing this since the boat was new. Last spring we
did a sludge test when checking the fuel sender unit by putting a tube
down to the bottom of the tank and sucking out a cup or two of fuel and
letting it settle in a clear jar. It was just as clear as the
fuel/water separator bowl with only the slightest hint of sediment after
letting it stand for several days.

Also, we typically add a small amount of cetane booster / fuel
conditioner. Smoothes out the idle and operation. Depending on what you
buy, it also adds to the lubricity (is that a word?)..

Lower sulpher does reduce the lubricating properties, and also, the
cetane levels generally seem to be dropping in diesel, so we just try to
keep ahead. It's quite easy.

Local service stations, as well as the big truck stops (where I buy my
diesel), have started converting from Low Sulfur Diesel (500 parts per
million) to
Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (15 ppm). Does this affect our Yanmars? Do we
need
an additive to increase the fuel's ability to lubricate the engine?
