On my Japanese Yanmar with the KM3 Kanzaki transmission, the ID plate is on the mounting flange. I can actually read it without pulling the aft engine enclosure by looking up from the compartment where the fuel filter and cooling water inlet valve is located. Look right above the dipstick.

Bring a flashlight for sure!!
