Jeff,
It is a pain, but worth it. The 4000+ works much better with the rudder reference. I don't think you'll have any luck pushing through the silicane plug. At least I didn't. You'll most likely have to raise the pedestal guard a few inched from the deck, dig out the plug and pull the cable through from the top as I describe. If you don't have radar (I do) it might be a bit less crowded up the guard to the pod.
The transducer mounting wasn't too bad, although getting the angles and rod length just right was a bit of trail and error. If you have the opportunity your best bet is to find a 2005 model C320 and look at how it's mounted.

Thanks Walter. I'll probably try that, but there is a heavy plug of silicone
that fills the last couple of inches of the bottom of the post. I think my
best bet will be to push the cable through the silicone and up to the pod.
I'm sure it will be a bit of a hassle, but this whole project looks to be a
pain. Fabricating a mount for the transducer and squeezing into the aft laz
to drill holes and install it will be another challenge. It might help if I
loose 20 Lbs before I get started. I'll probably loose another 20 in the
process.
