I've only used the electric kind a few times, but had one very bad
experience on a charter boat 20 years ago. At least with a manual pump
I have some idea how to fix it when it breaks and I'm a day away from
the nearest chandelery. Not to mention the battery drain. Buy a good
manual head instead and carry a spare parts kit. I replaced the head on
my last boat with a Raritan PHII and was very happy with it. Will do
the same on Surprise one of these days.
