In fact the gearbox does reverse the rotation in forward gear. CW at the
front of the engine becomes CCW viewed at the flywheel which becomes CW
at the prop, which is RH.

A left hand rotation observed from the front is a right hand rotation
viewed from the propeller end.  There is no change in the direction of
rotation in your engine / transmission.  Getr a right hand rotating
prop.
