My gate broke off the clam (called that because of the bi-valve shape)
several years and I haven't missed it.

I happened to notice some funny things about the clamcleats that hold
the ends of the mainsheet.

First thing is, they are actually "clamcleats". No, I'm not an idiot,
and that is not a typo. The ones on my boat were manufactured by these
folks: http://www.clamcleat.com

Second, I noticed the remainder of a broken lever on one of them. That
leads me to believe the original unit was something like this:
http://www.clamcleat.com/cleats/cleat_details.asp?theid2=60

The broken lever is evidently the remains of the red gate.

Does anyone have these with the gates intact? Do the gates add any
value?
