Nick,
Welcome to the list and congrats on the new to you boat.
Very common for starters as they age to draw more current. Before you replace anything else I would take the starter to a local mechanic who should be able to test it on the bench. Some local places can even do the rebuild for you or at least help find a source for rebults.
Good luck with the boat and let us know how you make out.

Subject: [C320-list] trouble starting engine

Hey all,
Been following/enjoying this list-serve for a while now but first time submitting. Recently bought Hull #1 (still unamed) w some friends - has various issues. so I actually have a lot of different questions. I'll start with this one. Engine will not start on just the starter battery. It will start by using all (house + starter battery). Tried cleaning all connections, replacing the starter battery and replacing the battery switch - all failed. It grinds, comes close but not enough to start. Mechanic suggested replacing all wire with heavier gauge but surveyor thought that gauge was adequate. The boat has an inverter but I don't think that's an issue b/c the moment I installed the new starter battery I tried the engine and it wouldn't turn over. Any thoughts? Also, is there some organized archive in which i can search for previous topics (ie changing head hoses, leaks in aft cabin)?

Nick
hull #1
