Scott-
1)Yes Yanmar has replaced their oil filters, and yes they are all smaller.
2)Along therse lines, I just found this weekend as I was going through my
"Boat stuff" a brand new in original box, Yanmar 119305-35151 oil filter,
anyone want to send me a check for $10 for it(including shipping), I paid
about $15 if memory serves correctly.
3)I also stumbled across my Yanmar 3GM30 Shop Manual, anyone itnerested? I
think they sell for "upper $30's" anyone want to send me a check for $20
for it?
4)I will take $25 for both items, first come, first served...

I recently purchased the Yanmar spare parts kit for my 1999 Yanmar
3GM30F (European model). When I inventoried the kit I found that the
oil filter in the kit is different from what I've used in the past. The
kit has Yanmar part number 119305-35151 while in past years I've used
Yanmar part number 119660-35150. When I called the dealer who sold me
the kit (Bay Shore Marine in Annapolis) they told me that the older
model has been discontinued and that I have the right filter in my new
kit. He said that Yanmar has changed their filter designs so as to
standardize across several engine lines.
But the new filter has considerably different dimensions than the old,
making me skeptical of this advice. The new filter is quite a bit
smaller than the old one, for example. However the mounting surfaces
are sufficiently similar that it might be possible to install it on my
engine. Does anyone know from experience whether I'm getting good or
bad advice on this? I already changed the oil filter on my engine this
Fall, so won't have an opportunity to actually check the new filter
until next year.
