[C320-list] Centering the mast

Mike,

I cleat the main halyard so it hangs about 5 feet off the deck and attach a
tape measure to it. Then I put a bit of tension on the tape/halyard and
measure the distance to a point on the starboard toe rail. I think I measure
to a point on the rail just aft of the center chainplate. I then similarly
measure to the same point on the port rail. I adjust the upper shrouds (and
the intermediate if needed to keep the mast in column) to move the mast in
the desired direction, and consider the mast centered when the distance to
port is about 3/4" longer than the distance to starboard. The difference in
distance is due to the fact that the halyard exits from the starboard sheave
at the masthead.

Gotta go. Holiday traffic towards the harbor is gonna be a b----.

Jeff

Jeff,
Would you describe the process of centering the mast?

Actually, this is the first year that I compensated for the halyard
offset when I centered the mast, and I don't recall noticing much port
list this season. Probably wishful thinking, but maybe the list is at
least a little better??
