Thanks much Allan. Maybe I'm not senile yet after all. I'll have to tell Kathy the good news :) I honestly wasn't sure I'd gotten that right so I'm glad to hear that your notes concur.

And now we know the (cologne) secret to Orlando's appeal. Please don't bring enough for everyone in SD or Orlando will lose that special something that we all love so much :)

Bill - Your memory is pretty good. Following is what I wrote up after the
tour: "The infamous Catalina port list was discussed. According to Mr.
Douglas, the narrow water line at the beam makes for a faster boat with the
downside being that the boat is sensitive to weight distribution. His
recommendation is to keep the weight down to control the list."

Adam,

My recollection is that we did ask him at the Marina Del Rey regatta factory
tour. As I recall he basically said that the 320 is tender because it has a
hull shape faster than many other Catalinas. Trade off. Tender hull shape
implies tippy making it nearly impossible to exactly balance port and
starboard weight in the cabin.

Others might remember more precisely than me. I was nearly out of earshot
so didn't catch every word.

Well, now we know the mystery of why there is a port list. You fix one
problem and another one develops. Orlando, don't say anything about "Is
there a list".

By the way, did the question of why there is a list ever make on the
question of Gerry Douglas?
