[C320-list] Hood Furler rebuild instructions?

Chris,
I used the jib halyard to keep the rig up. I tied a loop of rope through the two bow cleats, attached the halyard, released the back stay adjuster and cranked down on the jib halyard, but it does not have to be too tight. I also used a spinaker halyard tied to the bow roler and cleated off, just because I'm a belt and suspenders type guy.

Then I moved the boat as far forward as possible in the slip so I could do all the work on the dock.

I don't know if your hood is put togeather the same way as mine but there was only one bearing, ss pressed onto an aluminum hub and drum. The real dificult part becomes getting the two to seperate. I bought a nice set of inside and out side snap ring plyers at sears as the use the rings to hold the bearings in place.

I've used PB Blaster, torches wooden mallets (with a block of wood to protect the drum), dremal tool with cut of blades and a hitachi grinder.

When putting everything back together I use lanacoat librally on all mating surfaces and fastners.

Good luck!

OK; I got the manual and 4 sets of bearings for the lower unit. Does anyone have a good written process to removing the unit without losing the rig? Alternatively, any "do's" and "don'ts" will help as I did not step the mast on my boat when I got it. 1994, #139, Hood 900 SL.

Thanks in advance,
