Wes,

Did you buy the larger LD6-1 unit or the smaller 31LD radar tower accessory? The Garhauer rep told me he could put fittings on the smaller one so that it would have top and bottom attachments to a vertical stern rail post.

  I looked at the Garhauer Davits. They make a light-weight version that
  could be temporarily attached to a stern rail post. Might be a good option
  if I decide to go with the bigger motor.

    I'm waiting for Bruce's opinion, but I think the weight issue will
    override the noise issue. I had rotator cuff surgery this winter and I
    don't think I'll be happy lifting a 40 pound motor up to the stern rail.
