[C320-list] Sail slides

My experience is that the wet lubricant will attract dirt, dry out, and make
the situation worse than it was to start with.
I've had success by cleaning the grove (easiest when the mast is on the
hard!) and then spraying the track with McLube.  I've seen people buy an
sail slide and then rig a down haul and use the halyard to pull the slide,
wrapped in a think rag up to the top of the mast.  You then use the down
haul to bring it back.  After repositioning the rag and repeating the
process a few times you end up with a pretty clean track.

Never use a WD-40 type of 'wet lubricant' (which it really isn't)...use 'dry
types' only..

Let me start by saying that I have not tried MacLube, but did try WD40
without success.  At the end of our seconc season with Winter Whim (C320
#211) in 2005, I wrote to the list to ask about power halyard winches and
ball bearing systems since I was having problems raisins the main.  We had
changed all the sail slides to nylon with stainless bales, and this helped
but we were still struggling.  Jeff Hart responded to my note and suggested
that the power and ball bearings were probably not necessary and recommended
using some detergent solution.  I followed his advice and I now squirt a 1:2
mixture of Dawn:water into the sail track before raising the main.  The
difference is spectacular.  And I believe the residual detergent in the
track combines with rain to keep the track clean.

Spray them as the sail is hoisted. That way you get all the slides and the 
McLube will be spread all the way up the track.
