At least one mfgr of split couplers also have a standard keyway.  Since the
shafts are typically cut with one, I'd order a coupler that has one also.
I'd feel better with a key on the shaft anyway.

reply: "With a split flange coupler, you don't need a keyway and it's much
easier to
remove and adjust the flange."  However, the one I saw on e-bay did have a
slot for a key.  Wouldn't it be recommended to fit it with a key if the
coupler has the slot?
