Bruce - I would add that for me, Rendezvous has been an opportunity to meet
new friends, like you and Norma, who I suspect will be part of my life for
many years to come. You can't put a price on that... - Allan

Irv,

Others can chime in to respond to your question but generally here is what
I've seen at the four Regattas we've attended (Baltimore, Marina Del Rey,
Newport, San Diego): It's usually a three-day weekend with as many
activities added as possible. For example: Baltimore had an (optional)
Orioles baseball game one evening and a dinner cruise on the Patapsco river
past historic Fort McHenry, Marina Del Rey included a tour of the Catalina
plant. The local people who bring their boats take the "tourists" out to
cruise or race on Saturday and sometimes sail Sunday morning too. The
schedules vary somewhat but Friday is usually a relaxed arrival day with
registration, a cocktail hour and dinner. Saturday is an early start with
breakfast and the 320's heading out to cruise or race with box lunches for
everyone. The winner of the races gets the large perpetual plaque for a
year with their name and boat name engraved on it, the cruisers get to see
some great sights from the water. Saturday evening is a cocktail hour and
the awards dinner with a guest speaker. Sunday morning is breakfast and
possibly sailing for the people who are leaving later in the day. Did I
miss anything?

And you can tie-in a vacation in the area of the Regatta during the rest of
the week - the Regatta has become an annual trip for us.

You get to sail on a boat like yours in waters other than your own, see what
others have done to modify their boats, party with other 320 owners, and
make new/meet old friends from all over the country. It doesn't get much
better than that.

Hi,

My partner just asked me to describe what actually happens at a regatta. I
assume some amount of racing but what else takes place?

I have never been to a Regatta, so I really couldn't answer. Irv
