Adam et al:

The forum has been very helpful again. Not all of the suggestions are
equally applicable to my specific case.

Replace the current spouse with a model with a more robust upper body
(and I mean that in a sincere, non-gender specific way). The time and
pain experienced in my training by the current spouse is not an
experience I would wish to repeat. It would be better for me if I kept
her, if only to avoid my reschooling..

Upgrade to electric winches. It would be a long and uncomfortable
live-down with the race crew as it would be a major purchase with
nothing in it for them.

A furling 135% with foam luff. As it has been suggested that this will
furl to 100% while continuing a reasonable shape this is likely the
solution. This will make things easier for the spouse and still offer
something for the race crew. The best races we had with the previous
boat were in wind over 25 knots with a reefed main and our smaller jib.

Thus I shall go shopping for a new jib before the May launch.

My thanks to all for giving me food for thought and the insight of
experience.
