I've been using Interlux Fiberglass Bottomkote ACT since the spring of
2002 in fresh water. Practical Sailor rates the product good, but not
the top performer; although I've had good results. Applying a non-finish
colour as the first coat and the desired colour as the final coat I
repaint when enough of the finish coat has worn away to reveal the
undercoat colour.

Thus far I have found it necessary to repaint leading edges every year,
and the entire bottom every two years. There is no fresh water growth
from our rivedr and no paint buildup requiring eventual scraping. Of
course in the Great White North the sailing season is only 6 months and
the rest of the year is on the hard as the harbour freezes. For rabid
racers, the finish is not the same level of baby-bottom-smoothness that
VC-17 yields; but it is very servicable for the cruising set. For those
blessed with year round sailing results may vary.
