Another thing to check - Make sure there are no low spots before the
stern exit because if there are, water will pool there and make the
vent - Useless. Just because you can pour water into the propane locker
and see water come out the stern it Does Not mean that the vent is
working because if anywhere along it the tube is filled with water,
propane gas - Will Not - drain out. Just blowing it out once does not
cure the problem either because rain or washing will simply fill the low
spot again. This came up a few years ago on this list and it is a fairly
common problem that I remedied with slight re-routing of mine. Stan

Adam,

After I purchased my boat fall of 2005, I turned on the propane at the
tank to do a leak test. A half-hour later the boat started to smell of
propane. Using soap I discovered the brass Tee fitting (at the top of
the tank) has a crack (which I could only see with a magnifying glass).
I replaced it. Next spring I washed out the propane locker and it would
not drain (dust and spider webs). I now clean this locker a few times a
season and make sure water drains out that vent cap at the Port side of
the transom. I was lucky the boat did not blow up. This drain vent,
which is very important, clogs easily.

Port side, just above the water. It is far below the 110 inlet.

Any chance you meant starboard? If so, it's probably diesel fuel vent.

While pumping out yesterday I got a good look at the boat's stern which
I normally don't see. There was a large amount of rust coming out of
the ventilator cap on the port transom. (I have hull 218.) This is the
same type of vent cap that is used for the head vent.

Does anyone know what the vent on the port transom close to the water
connects to?

Adam
